Community College Visit Sparks Big Dreams for Esports Students

A group of enthusiastic junior school esports students took a major step toward their future this week as they visited Trinity Valley Community College, where they got a firsthand look at what college-level esports — and college life — has to offer.
The visit included a tour of the college's t esports facility, a Q&A session with current student-gamers, and conversations with faculty about academic pathways that complement careers in gaming, technology, media, and more.
“It was eye-opening,” said Brandon. “Seeing the equipment, the team environment, and how seriously the college supports esports made me really excited about what’s next.”
For many of the students, this was their first time stepping onto a college campus — and the impact was immediate. Alongside the gaming focus, the group also learned about programs in computer science, game design, broadcasting, marketing, and digital media — fields that directly support the booming esports industry.
“Esports is so much more than just playing games,” said James Jones at TVCC. “It opens doors to careers in technology, communication, leadership, and entrepreneurship. We want students to see all the different avenues available to them.”
The visit was part of a broader effort to bridge the gap between junior high and high schools and college esports, helping students imagine their place in the rapidly growing world of competitive gaming and digital careers. The college also shared information about scholarships, dual enrollment opportunities, and student life.
By the end of the visit, the excitement was clear — and so was the shift in perspective.
“I always thought of college as something stressful,” said Audrey, “but after today, I see it as something I can look forward to.”
With esports programs expanding at colleges across the country, the future looks bright for these students — and they’re ready to level up.
